<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly and a fuel cell which are excellent in durability after causes of cross leak are clarified and sufficient measures against the cross leak are realized. <P>SOLUTION: This is the membrane electrode assembly 10 which has pinched a polyelectrolyte membrane 11 having ion conductivity by a pair of electrodes composed of a fuel electrode 12 to which the fuel is supplied and an oxidizer electrode 13 to which an oxidizer is supplied, and gas diffusion layers 12b, 13b including a fibrous conductor and catalyst layers 12a, 13a including a catalyst are installed at the electrodes. The outer dimension in the surface direction of the polyelectrolyte membrane 11 is larger than that in the surface direction of the electrode, and a protective means 12c which prevents the fibrous conductor protruding from the end face of the gas diffusion layers 12b, 13b from sticking into the polyelectrolyte membrane 11 is installed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
