PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium storage device which performs ready processing for allowing a head to access data of a storage medium after power-on, which can be prevented from disconnected from a host even if ready time is delayed due to retry. SOLUTION: The device comprises a rotary storage medium 10, a head 12, a control unit 28, and a memory 51 holding a ready regulated time showing pledicted ready completion time. Even if the ready processing is not completed within the ready regulated time, the command response of the device is changed to a ready state when the ready regulated time comes. Therefore, since Ready is returned when an access command is issued after the ready regulated time, the risk of the disconnection can be eliminated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
