PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for analyzing, efficiently with a satisfactory throughput, a sugar chain component existing in a sugar chain-containing specimen in only the tiniest traces or unavailable. SOLUTION: In the analysis method, a suitably labeled sugar receptor is put into contact with a sugar chain-containing specimen to cause a complex to be formed between them. Optical properties or behaviors specific to the complex are measured. By suitably comparing measurement values thus obtained with those before forming the complex, it is made possible to obtain knowledge about various properties (existence, components, size, concentration, etc.) of a sugar chain.
