PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing silicon, in particular, to provide a method for efficiently producing silicon suitable for solar cell production. SOLUTION: The method for producing silicon includes reducing a halogenated silane represented by the formula (1): SiH<SB>n</SB>X<SB>4-n</SB>with a metal, wherein the metal has a wire shape. In the formula (1), n is an integer of 0-3, X is a halogen atom selected from the group consisting of F, Cl, Br and I, and when a plurality of symbols X is present, they may be the same or different.
