ARTICLE AUTHENTICATION SYSTEM AND METHOD

A system and method for authentication of articles. Each of one or more tags adapted to be affixed to an article is configured to communicate with a tag reader to execute a secure authentication procedure. Successful execution of the secure authentication procedure indicates that the article to which the tag is attached is an authentic article. Unsuccessful execution of the secure authentication procedure indicates that either the article to which the tag is attached is not an authentic article, or is an authentic article that has been damaged or tampered with. The invention may be used, for example, for the authentication of pharmaceutical articles.
