PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bone anchoring device equipped with a locking apparatus. SOLUTION: The bone anchoring device contains an anchoring element (1) containing a shank (2) anchored to a bone or a vertebra and a receiving section (4) connected to the shank, the receiving section contains the first end portion (5) on the side opposite to the shank and the second end portion (6) facing the shank, a stem (L) in a longitudinal direction which passes through two end portions, a bore (7) which is the same stem as an axle in a longitudinal direction and extends through at least a part of the receiving section from the first end portion, and a substantially U-shaped hollow (10) for receiving a rod (20); wherein the hollow forms two free leg sections (11, 12) which extend in the direction of the first end portion; the leg sections are equipped with female screws (13). Further, the bone anchoring device includes locking apparatuses (30, 50) for securing the rod to the receiving section and an engagement mechanism (38) which is prepared in the periphery of at least a part of the outside and projects above the first end portion of the receiving section.
