<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method capable of detecting blockage of an exhaust pipe of a superconducting magnet of an open structure to be used for an MRI device and performing maintenance. <P>SOLUTION: An operating method for a magnetic resonance imaging system provided with a superconducting magnet includes a refrigerant container 204, an exhaust pipe 108 connected to an internal space of the refrigerant container 204, and an exhaust valve 214 for exhausting when gas pressure in the exhaust pipe reaches predetermined prescribed pressure. The gas pressure of the exhaust pipe 108 is detected by a pressure sensor 216, the detected gas pressure is compared with the prescribed pressure, and it is determined on the basis of a comparison result whether or not there is a blockage in the exhaust pipe.
