<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head which can reduce the Edge Write magnetic field and improve the resistance to external magnetic fields. <P>SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording head has a magnetic layer 24 having a main pole exposed facing the recording medium M, a return yoke layer 27 formed on the magnetic layer 24 via a non-magnetic layer, and coil layers 18, 23 to produce a recording magnetic field to the magnetic layer 24 and the return yoke layer 27.
