A luminous apparatus with light emitting diodes and an operating method thereof are provided to visually and variously show a personality of a user by making possibly to vary a lightening pattern of the luminous apparatus at user's taste. A luminous apparatus with light emitting diodes includes a light emitting section(100), a lightening pattern memory section(102), a control section(104), a communication module(106) and a lightening menu providing section(108). The lightening pattern memory section stores lightening pattern information for controlling the plurality of LEDs of the light emitting section. The communication module communicates with external devices. The lightening menu providing section provides a menu through which a user inputs lightening pattern information. The control section controls the lightening menu providing section to output the menu, updates the lightening pattern information with a received through the communication module, and controls the plurality of LEDs of the light emitting section according to the updated lightening pattern information.
