An apparatus for producing stereoscopic image bit stream and a method thereof are provided to transmit and store a stereoscopic image about various stereoscopic image format. A stereoscopic image bit stream producing apparatus comprises a 3D playback interval information recorder(410), a camera information recorder(430), a parallax information recorder(450) and a video recorder(470). The 3D playback interval information recorder records 3D playback interval information to the header area of the image bit stream, and outputs to the video recorder. The camera information recorder records camera information about the stereoscopic image obtaining camera, and outputs the record to the video recorder. The parallax information recorder records the parallax information between standard image, and added time point image to the header area, and outputs the record to the video recorder.
