A method for providing lane information and an apparatus for performing the method are provided to make a user deal with a road situation by recognizing a travelling lane rapidly. A database(140) stores and maintains lane information corresponding to each lane and a 3D magnified screen displaying the real lane. A lane guide unit provides a lane guide screen mapped on the corresponding 3D magnified screen. A route calculation unit(120) searches the moving route to the predetermined destination location which the user designates based on the current position confirmed by a location confirming unit. The location confirming unit confirms the intersection within a set distance. A screen generating unit(130) generates the lane guide screen about the confirmed intersection.
