PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element with a high response speed which is usable as a light emitting element for optical communication of an optical interconnection module etc. SOLUTION: The organic EL element is an organic EL element 1 which is constituted by laminating an anode layer 3, an organic layer 3, and a cathode layer 5 in order on a transparent substrate 2 and has an information transmitting function, where the organic layer has a first organic layer 11 disposed on the anode layer side, a second organic layer 13 disposed on the cathode layer side, and a light emission layer 12 sandwiched between the first organic layer and second organic layer, energy level differences on the interface between the light emission layer, and the first organic layer and second organic layer being≤0.4 eV and a LUMO level difference on the interface between the light emission layer and second organic layer being≤0.1 eV.
