The seat is a hollow one containing holes in its flat bottom side which are evenly distributed around the seat periphery, via which air is removed from the toilet bowl using fans (4) located in a ventilation channel (3). Air is made to pass through replaceable carbon filters (7) in order to absorb malodorous molecules, before being released into the ambient atmosphere.
