A patterning device comprises a patterning original plate (1) having a patterned recess (15a) in a high resistance layer (15). When phosphor particles collected in the recess (15a) are transferred to a glass plate (M), an electric field is formed between discrete electrodes (14r, 14g, 14b) and a transfer roller (3), and a high frequency voltage is applied to a common electrode (12) in order to apply a voltage between the common electrode (12) and the discrete electrodes (14r, 14g, 14b), thus generating an ultrasonic wave from a piezoelectric layer (13).
