<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sodium and a sodium production device capable of efficiently producing sodium from impurity-containing sodium with reduced energy consumption. <P>SOLUTION: Electrolysis is performed with impurity-containing sodium as an anode and also with a molten salt electrolytic solution having a low melting point as an electrolyte. In the anode, only sodium comprised in the impurity-containing sodium is made into sodium ions and is eluted in the molten salt electrolytic solution, and the other impurities remain in the impurity-containing sodium. On the other hand, in the cathode, sodium (sodium ions) comprised in the molten salt electrolytic solution is deposited on the surface of the cathode. As the molten salt electrolytic solution, the one composed of the halide of aluminum and the halide of an alkali metal and in which the molar ratio therebetween lies within the range of 50:50 to 52:48 is used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
