PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a common rail type fuel injection system achieving high common rail pressure detecting accuracy and high injector abnormality detecting accuracy. SOLUTION: An ECU 40 outputs a fuel injection instruction to a specific injector 15 when fuel injection from each injector 15 to each cylinder 12 is stopped. Thereby, fuel is injected from the specific injector 15 when common rail pressure is stabilized without being influenced by fuel injection from each injector 15. Therefore, common rail pressure change detecting accuracy when fuel is injected from the specific injector 15 is enhanced. As a result, calculating accuracy for the injection start delay period of the specific injector 15 calculated by detecting a change in the common rail pressure is also enhanced. The ECU 40 determines that the specific injector 15 is abnormal when the injection start delay period of the specific injector 15 is out of a predetermined range. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
