PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bookbinding apparatus which enables casing-in of a desirable finish quality at all times even when the thickness of a paper bundle or the type of paper is varied, and a control method of the bookbinding apparatus. SOLUTION: In the bookbinding apparatus, a glue is applied to the back of the paper bundle being adjusted and cover paper is stuck to the back to which the glue is applied, so as to perform bookbinding. The apparatus includes an application means which makes the thickness of the applied glue variable and applies the glue to the back of the paper bundle, a cover paper sticking means which sticks the cover paper to the back of the paper bundle coated with the glue, and a control means which changes the time from the end of application of the glue to the start of sticking of the cover paper, according to the thickness of application.
