PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus usable for an extended period.

SOLUTION: An MFP that can communicate with a server storing a plurality of types of update programs and update information on a plurality of functions comprises a flash memory for storing an executable program, a function execution part for executing the stored executable program to execute at least one of the plurality of functions, and when any of the plurality of functions is executed, storing performance information representing the execution of the function on the executed function basis in the flash memory (S03), a determination part (S06) for determining a target program out of the plurality of types of update programs stored in the server according to the performance information and the update information stored in the server, and an updating part (S10) for acquiring the determined target program and updating the executable program stored in the flash memory with the acquired target program.
