An optical pointing device and a mobile terminal equipped with the same are provided to realize easy and various input modes, and reduce the volume of the optical pointing device. A light penetrating part(11) penetrates light output from a light source(21). The light source outputs the light to an object(23) touched with the light penetrating part. An image sensor(15) receives the light reflected from the object. A switch(19) performs a function when the object presses the light penetrating part. A controller makes information inputted when the switch is pressed, and realizes information input by recognizing movement of the object on the light penetrating part, and a distance change between the object and the light penetrating part based on a signal received from the image sensor. A lens(13) forms a focus on the surface of the light penetrating part. The controller recognizes the distance change between the light penetrating part and the object by analyzing a histogram of the object. |
