PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a tensile force to a series of driving chains by the use of take-up devices arranged outside the conveyer cover. SOLUTION: In a linear coating line PL in which coating processes P1 and P2 and a normal-temperature drying process D are arranged in series, a drive 4 is disposed in the downstream of the coating line PL so as to reduce the interval between carriages for the normal-temperature drying process D to narrower than that between carriages for the coating processes P1 and P2, and driven sprockets for the coating processes P1 and P2 and those for the normal-temperature drying process D are connected through transmission mechanisms 14 and 15 so as to reduce the carriage carrying speeds in the coating processes P1 and P2 to lower than that in the normal-temperature drying process D and thereby make the cycle times even. The driven sprockets between the processes and the transmission mechanisms are supported with floating rests 8 and 8 sliding back and forth in the carrying direction, and take-up devices 5 are located only outside the area in the upstream of the coating line PL where the conveyer cover 6 is arranged.
