PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the light resistance by using an azo pigment as a dichroism pigment and preventing the rise in the drive voltage by the irradiation with an ultraviolet light. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition includes 32 wt.% of a phenyl cyclohexane-based liquid crystal, 7 wt.% of a pyrimidine-based liquid crystal, 49 wt.% of a liquid crystal having a substituted benzene ring and 12 wt.% of a bicyclic cyanobiphenyl-based liquid crystal having a permittivity anisotropy of 11 as a drive voltage-lowering liquid crystal to decrease the drive voltage.
