PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device which doesn't require post-processing like etching and is good for environment and is capable of enhancing the strength of substrates by eliminating flaws and cracks on surfaces, and a manufacturing method of the electro-optical device. SOLUTION: Since surfaces of first and second base materials 9 and 10 as substrates are irradiated with laser light to melt, surfaces of the first and second base materials 9 and 10 are easily melted by heating at a high temperature to melt down recesses 34 such as flaws and cracks formed on the surfaces, and the flaws and the cracks are flattened to improve the strength of first and second substrates 6 and 7.
