PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide angle projection optical system achieving miniaturization of an entire projection system and increase of a projection angle so as to make a projection screen larger, and a projector. SOLUTION: The wide angle projection optical system for projecting an image comprises a first group lens 21, a second group lens 22, and a third group lens 23.
