PURPOSE:To eliminate an unnecessary scanning time by checking picture data of an original and detecting the end of the original, namely, the end of scanning of the original to stop a scanning base when the state where all picture data is a minimum value continues for a certain time. CONSTITUTION:Digital picture data of individual color components of the read original are compared successively to check picture density data of the original. If the state where all picture data is a minimum value continues for a certain time, the end of the original, namely, the end of scanning of the original is detected to stop the scanning base at this time. Thus, the unnecessary scanning time is eliminated to improve the recording speed.
