PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system capable of adding new information at the earliest possible timing of a synchronization process for transmission. SOLUTION: In the synchronization process, a transmitter (base station) modulates the phase of a pilot signal with additional information, thus transmitting the additional information to a receiver (mobile station). The receiver identifies the group of base stations from a synchronization signal, and uses a scrambling code characteristically used by respective base stations belonging to the group to correlate the pilot signals. The phase of the pilot signals capable of obtaining the maximum correlation value is obtained with the phase of the synchronization signal as a reference, and the additional information can be detected from the obtained phase.
