<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a failure from being erroneously diagnosed based on a detection value of an intake air flow rate and a learning value of atmospheric pressure. <P>SOLUTION: In a hybrid vehicle having an engine and a motor, when determining whether an increase amount of an intake air flow rate is normal or not during catalyst warm-up promotion control performing operation control of the engine with the increase amount of the intake air flow rate in cold starting of the engine, a failure-deciding threshold value Qref is set based on the atmospheric pressure learning value AP, and the set threshold value Qref and the intake air flow rate Qair from an air flow meter are compared to perform the failure diagnosis when a travel distance (a travel distance after learning L) travelled in a motor operation mode after the atmospheric pressure is last learned is less than a prescribed distance Lref (S220-S310), and the failure diagnosis is not executed when the travel distance after the learning L is the prescribed distance Lref or more.
