PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimally transfer a moving web onto a new core, in a winder. SOLUTION: In this method, the web is transferred to an empty spool forming a nip together with the web traveling on a winding roll, and at least one transferring strip is formed in at least one edge area of the web by at least one transverse cutoff device arranged upstream. An initial cutting piece to be introduced is directly or indirectly introduced between at least one transferring strip and the winding roll by at least one feeder without being covered with the transferring strip. After the initial cutting piece reaches the nip formed by the winding roll and the new core, the initial cutting piece is connected to the new core, and the transferring strip is cut by at least the initial cutting piece at a point where the web is separated from the new core at the latest, thereby forming a new web start portion connected to the initial cutting piece and the new core.
