PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the rolling fatigue life of a leg shaft of a tripod member in a particularly severe condition in a single roller type tripod constant velocity universal joint in which needle rollers aligned on the outer circumference of the leg shaft are rolled when two shafts are rotated in an angled state. SOLUTION: In the single roller type tripod constant velocity universal joint, the leg shaft 24 of the tripod member 20 includes a surface layer by carbonitriding hardening and tempering, with the carbonitriding layer depth just under a contact part with a needle roller 32 supporting a roller 30 being 0.05 mm or more.
