In a silent chain (1, fig 1), a flank surface 4 which comes into contact with a sprocket tooth (14, fig 3) at the start of engagement has a partially protruding portion 4a continuously formed along the longitudinal direction of the flank surface. Only the partially protruding portions 4a of link plates 2 that initially contact the sprocket teeth are positively caused to wear during running in of the chain, so that protruding portions 4a of flank surfaces 4 of other link plates that did not initially contact the sprocket teeth (14, fig 6) are brought into contact with the sprocket teeth (14, fig 7). The protrusions may be of different shapes, see figs 8a-d. |
