PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress or avoid interference of a claw of a parking lock pole with a recessed part of a parking gear in an engaging process or a drawing-out process of the claw with respect to the recessed part and improve their durability without increasing an occupation space in a parking mechanism provided in a vehicle automatic transmission. SOLUTION: In the parking mechanism of the automatic transmission, drive means 24, 25 for oscillating the parking lock pole 22 move the parking lock pole 22 so that the width direction central position of the tip of the claw 22a of the parking lock pole 22 is moved along a radial line L passing from the rotation center P of the parking gear 21 to the circumferential center of the recessed part 21b as shown in X1, X2, X3.
