<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the precision of edge detection from a variable density image in an image processing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Pixels on a prescribed scan line of a variable density image which is picked up by a camera and stored in a photographic image storage memory are successively set as a noticed pixel, and a density value of the noticed pixel is inputted to an edge strength operation part. A pixel on the scan line which is shifted from the noticed pixel of the variable image by 5 pixels is set as a comparison pixel, and a density value of the comparison pixel is inputted to the edge strength operation part. The edge strength operation part subtracts the density value of the noticed pixel which is weighted as prescribed from the weighted density value of the comparison pixel and determines an absolute value of the subtraction result as a density value of the noticed pixel after edge emphasis processing. Respective pixels of the variable density image are successively set as the noticed pixels, and an edge image is obtained by calculating density values of respective pixels after edge emphasis. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
