A memory subsystem capable of using a bank ID and a method thereof are provided to reduce the number of pins for outputting bank selection signal and facilitate design by using no bank selection signal, and check a status of a memory in a desired time during access operation. A memory subsystem includes a plurality of banks(130-1~130-16), a controller(110) controlling operation of each bank, and first and second buses connected between the banks and the controller. The controller outputs an ID of the access bank before a command is output to the desired access bank through the first bus(121). The controller checks a status of the access bank by receiving a status output signal from the access bank through the second bus(125) after a status check command is output to the access bank through the first bus. The controller includes a memory storing the bank IDs, and a control logic reading the ID of the access bank, outputting the read ID through the first bus, and outputting the command.
