The converter has a cover provided in a heat conducting material in which a fractal support is placed. The support is formed by imbrication of elements made in the material having better thermal conductivity. The cover has a central hub and lateral foot integrated with the hub, where part of the element is in contact with a wall of a recess and the elements are covered by a macroporous refractory material layer serving as a support at a catalytic phase. An independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating a catalytic converter.
