A front loading washing machine includes an integrated motor and controller assembly (100). In various embodiments, the controller (104) is mounted directly to one of a pair of opposing endshields (114, 116) of the electric motor (102) and the endsheilds (114, 116) are mounted directly to a stator (108) of the motor (102). Additional embodiments include a rotor shaft (112) of the motor (102) having each of opposing ends supported within a bearing (138, 140) mounted within a respective one of the opposing endshields (114, 116). In other embodiments, the controller 104 can include an insulating shield (120a') positioned between a controller circuit board 118 and the motor endshield (114) to which the controller (104) is mounted. The insulating shield (120a') providing electrical arcing protection, thermal insulation and/or electro-magnetic insulation between the circuit board (118) and the endshield (114).
