PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording medium which makes it possible to obtain optimum tracking characteristics at all times even in unrecorded areas and makes it possible to obtain the optimum tracking characteristics at all times even in already recorded areas by making it possible to obtain both of good reproducing information from pit lines for reproducing only and good reproducing information from guide grooves for recording and reproduction by reproducing intermediate areas comprising the pit lines by a tracking system of a differential push-pull system or a phase difference system.

SOLUTION: This information recording medium wherein both the guide grooves formed on a disk substrate and the base surface positions of the pit lines are flat on the same plane is provided with the intermediate areas comprising the pit lines whose height changes between the height from the base surfaces to the flanks of the guide grooves and the height from the base surfaces to the flanks of the pit lines in the switching segments changing from the pit lines to the guide grooves or from the guide grooves to the pit lines.
