PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane separation apparatus capable of preventing the retention of impurities such as residue to maintain a filtration performance over long periods.

SOLUTION: The membrane separation apparatus is characterized in that hollow fiber membrane elements 10 plurally arranged are covered by a casing 20, and in that the upper part of a side wall 33 corresponding to a side face part in the arrangement direction of the hollow fiber membrane elements 10 of this casing 20 is provided with an opening part 35 for letting air generated from a diffusion generator 15 to the outside of the casing 20.
