PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform operation according to a kind of a battery unit by judging the kind of the battery unit to be mounted. SOLUTION: A system control circuit 1 of a camera body 100 communicates with the battery unit 3 via a communication terminal in a connector 4 connected to the battery unit 3 and judges whether or not there is a response from the battery unit 3. When there is a response from the battery unit 3, it is judged whether the details of the response are correct or not. When there is no response from the battery unit 3, a voltage of the battery unit 3 is detected to judge the state of the battery unit 3.
