A platform screen door system and a control method thereof are provided to accurately control opening and closing of a screen door without an external system to transmit a detection signal about the opening and closing of the door of a train. A platform screen door system includes individual control units, a train arrival detecting sensor unit, an operating unit, door opening and closing detecting units(130a~130j), and an integrated control panel(140). Each of the individual control units includes a fixed door and a screen door installed at a platform, isolates the platform from a railway line by controlling the operation of the screen door according to a screen door opening and closing control signal, displays an operation state of the screen door, and detects whether the screen door is normally operated. The train arrival detecting sensor unit is composed of train arrival detecting sensors to detect arrival of a train. The operating unit displays the operation state of the screen door and manually operates opening and closing of the screen door. The door opening and closing detecting units detect turn-on of door opening and closing indicating lamps. The integrated control panel is connected among the individual control units, the train arrival detecting sensor unit, the operating unit, and the door opening and closing detecting unit and controls the opening and closing of the screen door by controlling the operation of the individual control units according to the screen door opening and closing control signal or a train door opening and closing signal detected by the door opening and closing detecting unit.
