A method is provided to reduce odor generated from the surface coated with latex paints including 3-isothiazolone by using a non-metallic stabilizer. To reduce odor generated from the surface coated by latex paint, (a) at least one stabilizer selected from the group consisting of 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidineoxyl, sterically hindered phenol, sterically hindered amine, unsaturated fatty acid, nicotine amide, thiodicarboxylic acid and N,N-dialkylhydroxylamine, (b) at least one isothiazolone biocide selected from the group consisting of 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, and (c) at least one thickener selected from the group consisting of hydroxylethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, alkaline-soluble emulsion polymer or a hydrophobically modified hydroxyethyl cellulose, wherein the latex paint includes less than 5% of a polyurethane thickener.
