<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process where the melt energy consumption in the electroslag remelting of metals is lowered, and a metal melt is not infiltrated into a gap between the insulated part and water-cooled part in an ingot mold, and to provide an ingot mold used therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In the process for the electrostag remelting of metals, remelting takes place in a short, two-part sliding ingot mold (10), its lower part (12) shaping the casting cross-section being water-cooled and its upper part (20) being insulated completely or partly against heat removal, during normal block construction, the metal surface (5) of a stagnant melt is always kept in the lower, water-cooled part (12) of the ingot mold (10), that is below the line of separation (18) between the water-cooled part (12) and insulated part (20) of the same by corresponding control of the relative movement between the ingot mold (10) and remelting block (6). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
