PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus where water sticking to the surface of an optical element is removed to prevent adverse influence by the water sticking to the surface of the optical element. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with a protection glass 11 having an incident surface for making luminous flux incident on a photographing optical system including a lens 3, and a barrier 21 capable of moving between an opening position where the incident surface 11a of the protection glass 11 is opened and a closing position where the incident surface is covered, and present at a position separate from the incident surface when it is present at the opening position. A water repellent coating having water repellency is applied to the surface of the incident surface 11a of the protection glass 11, while a hydrophilic coating having hydrophilicity is applied to an opposed surface 21a opposed to the incident surface of the barrier 21. A waterdrop repelled by the water repellent coating is absorbed by the hydrophilic coating, whereby the waterdrop is removed from the surface of the protection glass 11. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
