Apparatus in spinning preparation equipment for separating foreign objects at a roll 5 for opening or doffing fibre material, comprises a separation device having a plurality of air nozzles arranged across the width of the equipment. The nozzles provide an air blast to dislodge and remove foreign objects. The nozzles are mounted on a bar 30 and their outlets are displaceable relative to the surface of the roller, preferably uniformly and simultaneously by the same amount radially or axially relative to the roller. The bar preferably comprises a housing 31 in the form of a hollow extrusion having a compressed air duct through which nozzle inserts (42, Figure 5) extend from valves (43) to outlets. Valve actuators (44) may operate valves (43) to control air flow from duct (31a) through inlets (43', 43'') into the nozzles and out of blast air openings (38). The housing may have a pivot (32, figure 2a) and an eccentric (34) allowing adjustment of the angle of the air blast. Operation of the valves is controlled in accordance with input to a control system from devices such as cameras for detecting foreign objects. Electric leads for the valves may be integrated into housing 31. |
