An apparatus and a method for expanding a sensed size of contents are provided to provide an expansion effect corresponding to the number of users by assigning a weight value to the rate of users who gather to view a screen to control blinking of light emitting elements. A location checking unit(310) checks a location of a user who views a screen. An analyzing unit(330) extracts an illumination angle and an illumination strength of one or more light emitting elements provided at edges of a display device according to the checked viewing location. A controller(340) controls the illumination angle and the illumination strength according to the extracted results. The location checking unit expands the sensed size of contents by determining the position of the user's eyes as the viewing location. If there are many users, the location checking unit determines the center of the positions of the users' eyes distributed by user groups as the viewing location according to a crowd degree of the users.
