<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is adaptable to higher density of recording resolution and is free from the degradation of thin-line reproducibility. <P>SOLUTION: Pattern matching (c) using a detection pattern of one (lateral) pixel by four (longitudinal) pixels is performed for a lateral line (a) of interest with a 2-pixel width and an oblique line (a) of interest to make line width corrections.
