PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner having a uniform shape and a narrow particle size distribution width, and a method for manufacturing toner by which such a toner can be manufactured. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing toner includes atomizing and jetting a dispersion prepared by finely dispersing a dispersoid containing materials for toner manufacture in a dispersion medium, and solidifying the jet to particles under conveyance in a solidification section, wherein the dispersion medium contains at least two or more components capable of forming an azeotropic mixture, and when the fine particles of the dispersion are solidified in the solidification section, an external additive is provided. The external additive is contained in a gas stream moving in a direction substantially opposite to the conveyance direction of the fine particles of the dispersion in the solidification section. The average particle diameter Dd [μm] of the atomized dispersion and the average particle diameter Dm [μm] of the dispersoid in the dispersion preferably satisfy the relationship of Dm/Dd<0.5.
