A programmable LCD device capable of controlling viewing angle and a driving method thereof are provided to enforce security thereof by utilizing erasable interference patterns based on a density degree of letters and characters. A programmable LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device capable of controlling viewing angle includes an LCD panel(30), an input unit, a programmable interference data generator(40), and panel drivers(44,46). The LCD panel includes first and second typed color sub-pixels. The input unit inputs color sub-data for the color sub-pixels. The programmable interference data generator stores interference sub-pixel data for the interference sub-pixels among data from the input unit and selectively outputs the stored interference sub-pixel data and off-set sub-pixel data. The panel drivers drive the color and interference sub-pixels in response to one of the color sub-data, interference sub-pixel data, and off-set sub-pixel data.
