摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a decrease in recording quality while suppressing a fluctuation in rotation of a carriage even when a large drive source is applied thereto during the recording in acceleration or deceleration driving. SOLUTION: A carriage having mounted thereon a recording head is reciprocated via a belt, and then a drive timing of the recording head is controlled from information from an encoder means that outputs a signal according to the reciprocation of the carriage. The carriage has an encoder sensor for reading an encoder scale of the encoder means and an engagement section for engaging the belt with the carriage. The position of the encoder sensor is determined from a distance between a nozzle at the downstream side in a nozzle array and the encoder sensor, a distance between the nozzle at the upstream side in the nozzle array and the encoder, and a distance between the nozzle face of the recording head in the vertical direction with respect to a face of a recording medium and the encoder sensor, and a distance between the center of the gravity of the carriage and the engagement section.
