Systems and methods for controlling actuation of a well component

A technique is provided for controlling actuation of a well component. A resistance device is deployed in a tool string and connected to a well tool to be actuated. The resistance device comprises a deformable body (42) and a deforming member (40) that move relative to one another during actuation of the well tool (34). Deformation of the deforming member (40) provides constant resistance and consequent control over component actuation.
