PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a member-joining method and structure suitable for reinforcing a shaped material. SOLUTION: An auxiliary member 7 is inserted into holes 9a, 9b formed in a first place 8a and a second place 8b of a main member 6 such that the forward end of the auxiliary member is in the hole 9b of the second place 8b and the base end is in the hole 9a of the first place 8a. While being rotated, a joining tool 5 is pressed against the forward end of the auxiliary member 7 to soften the pressed portion and the second place 8b of the main member 6 by friction heat and plastic flow, and after that, the joining tool 5 is separated from the main member 6 to allow the plastic flow portions of the second place 8b and the auxiliary member 7 to solidify. Further, while being rotated, the joining tool 5 is pressed against the base end of the auxiliary member 7 to soften the pressed portion and the first place 8a of the main member 6 by friction heat and plastic flow, and after that, the joining tool 5 is separated from the main member 6 to allow the plastic flow portions of the first place 8a and the auxiliary member 7 to solidify.
