<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a hydrocarbon based resin with an excellent hydrophilic property capable of certainly and easily forming a coating layer hardly peeled off and having a hydrophilic property on a surface of a resin, and hydrophilizing the resin. <P>SOLUTION: After the hydrocarbon based resin is exposed to a mixture fluid in which an acrylate or a methacrylate represented by following formulae (1), (2) and an initiator are dissolved and incorporated into CO<SB>2</SB>in the supercritical state or the subcritical state, light and/or heat is applied to the surface of the resin, the initiator is decomposed, and the surface is coated with a copolymer of the acrylate or the methacrylate. However, in the following formula, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>each represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R<SP>2</SP>represents a hydrocarbon group containing a polyoxyethylene group, and R<SP>4</SP>represents a hydrocarbon group not containing a polyoxyethylene group.
